In 2018, Nanjing Water Bureau and Nanjing Planning Bureau jointly worked out the Special Plan for Urban and Rural domestic sewage treatment in Nanjing (2018 Mel 2035). According to the plan, the utilization rate of tail water recycling in Nanjing will be more than 25% in 2020, more than 30% in 2025 and more than 35% in 2035.
What are the uses of reclaimed water?
According to the Nanjing Water Bureau, reclaimed water can be used for ecological water diversion, landscape water use, greening irrigation, and the construction of wetlands in the construction of sponge cities.
At present, the utilization rate of reclaimed water in Nanjing is nearly 20%.
In the next step, Nanjing will also increase the transformation of sewage treatment plants and the utilization rate of reclaimed water.
In 2019, the six sewage treatment plants in the main city of Nanjing and the 13 township sewage treatment plants in Pukou and Liuhe will all be raised to the first-class A standard. At the same time, the reclaimed water plant will also continue to increase and expand. 19 sewage treatment plants, including Liuhe, Chemical Park, Qiaolin, and Jiangning Science Park, all have plans to increase reclaimed water systems.
By 2035, a total of 23 reclaimed water plants will be planned in Nanjing, with a daily production capacity of 2.33 million tons.
In the past, when Nanjing Environmental Protection Department released typical cases of environmental violations, there were cases in which sewage treatment plants were punished for violating the law.
Sewage treatment plants have become major polluters because of improper sludge disposal.
According to the staff of the Nanjing Environmental Protection Department, the main way to deal with sludge in the past was landfill, but now it is gradually increasing the proportion of incineration.
It is estimated that by 2035, Nanjing will produce 5900 tons of sludge per day.
Nanjing will build three sludge disposal sites in Jiangbei vein Industrial Park, Jiangnan Environmental Protection Industrial Park and Lishui (or Gaochun) Environmental Park, with a sludge disposal capacity of 6000 tons per day, incineration and the use of new technologies to realize sludge reuse and reduce environmental pollution in sewage treatment plants.
